As an educator in an instittue for persons with intelelctual disabilties and othe rplaces, Karel has adopted Gentle Teaching as his care giving philosophy. As a student he had searched for an alternatives to behaviorism and found a culture of gnelteness as the way to go, emphasizing unconditional love in his services and supports. Karel has helped produce video tapes related ot Gentle Teaching and offers workshops on Gentle Teaching throughout Flanders.

Helga became involved in Gentle Teaching in 1999 when she was principal of Marymound School, a secure facility for young people aged 7-17 with exceptionally high needs. After exposure to Gentle Teaching, it was obvious that the most critical factor in improving outcomes for our students was to love them. We tracked educational and emotional data over the years and saw positive outcomes--significant reduction of the use of restraint and increased educational achievement. Helga educates othe rprofessionals in Gentle Teaching at provinical, national, international training events and conferences.

Tim has been instrumental in fostering a spirit of gentleness across the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. For over two decades, Tim has worked in various leadership positions within human service settings developing and providing support for children at risk, young offenders, and people with developmental/intellectual disabilities. Tim currently serves as Executive Director for Saskatchewan Alternative Initiatives where he has been integral in establishing Gentle Teaching as the agency’s primary method of care. As founder and director of GT Educators, Tim teaches a spirit of gentleness to caregivers of all backgrounds through 3-day practicums and regular night classes throughout the province. In addition, Tim has presented Gentle Teaching to the Saskatoon Public Board of Education and the University of Saskatchewan College of Education, and has been a regular presenter at the Gentle Teaching International Conference since 2003

As a result of her ealry advocacy and teaching, the Macomb-Oakland Regional Center is the largest community service agency tin the USA hat has a culture of gentleness, uses no physical management, no restraint of any sort, and teaches all of its employees in a culture of gentleness. She helped create a care giving approach that is an alternative to behaviorism and is based on unconditional love.
